In this exhibit, visitors step into a world of friendly monsters where they navigate a challenging obstacle course, work together to feed a giant monster and care for furry, fluffy and scaly creatures in the monster clinic. All this monster play leads to strengthening social and emotional skills through delightful and highly engaging experiences.

  • Monster Mash dance floor where visitors dance out their joyful monster wiggles
  • Monster vet clinic where visitors take care of their favorite creatures
  • Monster Scream Booth for visitors to vocalize joys and frustrations
  • A tot-sized obstacle course designed especially for visitors 3 and under

Learning Goals

As young children develop social and emotional skills, it impacts their ability to develop positive
relationships as they grow older and their ability to navigate success in school. Monsters! supports children’s development in the following areas:

• • Self-awareness: the ability to recognize a person’s emotions, thoughts, and their influence on behavior
  • Self-management: the ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts and behavior in different situations
  • Social awareness: the ability to assume the other’s perspective and empathize with people from different cultures, understanding the social and ethical norms of such behavior
  • Relationship skills: the ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships
  • Responsible decision-making: the ability to make constructive and respectful choices about personal behavior and social interactions based on ethical standards, safety concerns, social norms, considering the well-being of oneself and others
